Whilst everyone is talking about the Haka, I think it is a good time to remind you that some of the key names in Lego's Bionicle toyline, came from Māori words.
This was a big issue between Māori elders and Lego around 2001 and 2002, and resulted in the creation of 'Naming Day', an in-universe explanation as to why characters changed their names between years.
For example.
Huki became Hewkii.
The additional letters were a sign of honour.
22 Years later, a reel of mine on Instagram went viral, and I learned that whilst some people unfamiliar with the situation are eager to be upset about it, actual Māori Lego fans are cool with it.

I am still doing the Gali giveaway, don’t worry.
I will announce the winner on December 1st, so I have time to post her out before Christmas!
Remember to share this newsletter with friends. When instagram eventually dies, we will need to hide here from the machines.
Very nice of you for doing this, I'm from New Zealand and lots of people don't know about this, cool to see others around the world do
