It's time to NOT give up.
What’s been going on in Grumblebricks world?
The Gali Mata giveaway still exists. I have decided, as I can’t really keep track of comments as easily as I’d hoped, that EVERYONE who has subscribed here to Grumblebricks is entered. So far there’s 8 of you, and you’ve all done the comment as well. Thank you for that, but for future entries all you’ll need to do is be here.
I have been working some more on that crowdfundr project, BIG TAHU, my goal being to bring a legoland scale statue into your home. I need a lot of red bricks, and this thing will be an engineering feat. I intend for his limbs to move. Here’s the link » https://fnd.us/tahustatue?ref=sh_8C1ho6 I am going to continue working on this, and supporters get instructions before anyone else.
I am going to post a photo of a previously unseen Bionicle prototype soon to my instagram. I teased its existence a few months ago, but nobody worked out my clues. I’ll give you another. Tarakava mask.
My comedy / scifi podcast has given me some ideas. I want to interview bionicle creators on it sometime, get them laughing, maybe argue about alien noses.
I’ve been invited to a few comedy gigs. Can’t say much yet, but I am excited.
I brought a book out. It’s called Macabre Multiverse and it’s a collection of sci-fi horror stories, which are illustrated by two great dudes in the Bionicle community as well. You can find it at linktr.ee/phillipcarter
I really miss my Lego system. There are professional Lego artists out there whose work reminds me of the stuff I was making in 2014 and 2015, during my summer holidays from university. It hurts to think about that side of myself that I feel I am being physically torn from. But I’m lucky. I still have the Lego in storage somewhere. It’s safe. One day I will get it back and build Grumble City. Then you’ll see, YOU’LL ALL SEE. (specifically you will see abstract floating islands and surreal cubic cityscapes).
Finally, I wrote something today under a post on the facebook bionicle community. I don’t think it’s any secret I’ve had a weird few years, and I wanted to let people know they’re not alone.
On losing your childhood Bionicles
We have all gone through losses. My house had a damp problem and all the Bionicle boxes I'd kept up until 2012 had to be thrown out. I've lost some more over the years moving between places, but I think what is beautiful now is that we still, after so many years, have people around the world who will help each other out in sourcing parts and finishing sets. Sure, it will never be the same as that beautiful, scary summer in 2007, but does it have to be? I am trying to Move Along.
You will keep losing things and gaining things and losing things again. And as the tides of life ebb and flow over the path you are walking, sometimes it might feel that you’re not getting anywhere, but you are.
And all the best stories started on beaches.
See you in the next post!
